Most internship programs struggle with perception.
They’re seen as temporary. Replaceable. Transactional.
For the Old Dominion Monarchs internship department, the issue wasn’t a lack of opportunity—it was a lack of positioning.
The experience existed, but it wasn’t being felt before someone applied.
They needed more than awareness.
They needed credibility.
We didn’t treat this like a promotional video.
We treated it like a brand story.
The goal wasn’t to explain the program—it was to reframe how it’s experienced from the outside.
That meant focusing on:
The level of responsibility interns actually have
The environment they operate in
The people behind the program
And the standard they’re held to
Everything was built to communicate one thing clearly:
This is a place worth earning your way into.
Production was built around real voices, supported by intentional visuals.
We led with interviews from key faculty and students—pulling soundbites that spoke directly to the level of the program, the expectations, and the experience itself. That gave the story its foundation.
From there, we staged supporting b-roll to match what was being said. Every environment, action, and moment was constructed to reflect the reality of the program—but elevated through controlled lighting, framing, and direction.
Nothing was left to chance.
The message led, and the visuals were built to reinforce it.
